These Espresso Hazelnut Medjool Date Truffles are the perfect afternoon pick-me-up!


  • 16 Natural Delights Medjool Dates
  • 1 Cup Hazelnuts
  • ¼ Cup Unsweetened Cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp. Espresso Powder
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 8 oz. Semi-Sweet bakers’ chocolate
  • 1 tsp. Espresso Powder


  1. In a bowl, pour hot water over dates and allow to sit for roughly 10 minutes before draining.
  2. In food processor, add hazelnuts and pulse until nuts are finely chopped, and the dates, cocoa powder, espresso powder, vanilla extract and salt and process until fully combined.
  3. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, roll the mixture into 16-18 balls and place in the fridge to chill for 45 minutes-1 hour.
  4. In a double boiler or a bowl over a pot of water, melt the chocolate and espresso powder and stir to mix together.
  5. Submerged the dates balls into the chocolate using a slated spoon. Place back onto the parchment paper baking sheet and place into the fridge for an additional 45 minutes or until chocolate is fully set.
  6. Store in the fridge in an air tight container and remove to enjoy!

*While Medjool dates are high in natural sugars, they are low on the glycemic index thanks to a balanced amount of soluble fiber. The complex carbohydrates found in Medjool dates are digested at a slower rate, making them a source of dietary fiber and releasing energy to the body over a longer period of time.
