Mexican Hot Chocolate with Dates

Take your hot chocolate up a notch with chili powder and Medjool dates! Enjoy this Mexican Hot Chocolate with your favorite cookie any time of year!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups of Milk or Dairy Free Beverage of Choice
  • 6 Natural Delights Pitted Medjool Dates
  • 1 Tbsp. Cacao Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. of Chili Powder (we used Arbol Chili Powder)
  • Whipped Cream and sprinkled cocoa powder and cinnamon stick or your favorite toppings!

Preparation

  1. In a medium pot, add milk and dates and simmer until milk is hot and slightly bubbling.
  2. Transfer milk and dates to high-speed blender and add, cacao powder, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and chili powder and blend on high until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour into mug and top with a cinnamon stick and your favorite toppings!

*While Medjool dates are high in natural sugars, they are low on the glycemic index thanks to a balanced amount of soluble fiber. The complex carbohydrates found in Medjool dates are digested at a slower rate, making them a source of dietary fiber and releasing energy to the body over a longer period of time.
